New Fees as at 1st July 2024

Dear Patients,

We are writing to inform you of an upcoming change in our practice fees, effective from July 1st, 2024. This decision was not made lightly and reflects the increased operational costs we face in providing you with the highest quality medical care.

Why Are We Increasing Our Fees?

A combination of rising expenses, including rent, staff wages, superannuation guarantee charge increases, I.T. expenses, insurance, rates, electricity, and new payroll tax liabilities, has made it necessary to adjust our fees. These changes are essential to ensure the sustainability of our practice and the continued delivery of exceptional healthcare services.

Understanding the Payroll Tax Impact

This year, the South Australian Government and Revenue SA have decided to include non-bulk-billed practitioner billings in the payroll tax assessment. This means that, despite our doctors operating with significant independence, their earnings are now subject to payroll tax. This reclassification imposes a substantial additional financial burden on our practice.

To cover these new expenses, we must increase our fees. This adjustment is crucial to meet the additional payroll tax costs and ensure we can continue providing you with the high standard of care you deserve.

Supporting a Strong Primary Health Care System

A well-funded General Practice and Primary Health Care system is vital for efficient and cost-effective healthcare delivery to our community. We are committed to challenging the State Government’s interpretation of payroll tax liability, which we believe unfairly taxes your healthcare.

We encourage you to voice your concerns about this issue to your local Member of Parliament. By advocating for fairer policies, you help us continue delivering affordable and high-quality medical services.

Our Commitment to Excellence

Medicare rebates no longer cover the full cost of providing the comprehensive and safe medical services we strive to deliver. The fees we charge are necessary to cover our operational costs, including employing dedicated receptionists and practice nurses, and maintaining our facilities, equipment, and services.

Our aim is to offer exceptional medical care at a reasonable cost. These fee adjustments are necessary to sustain this commitment.

If you would like to express your concerns about the insufficiency of Medicare rebates, please contact your local Member of Parliament.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Sincerely,

The East Adelaide Healthcare Team
